Craig's List

Craig's list is the modern version of the newspaper want ads.  It is now the most popular place to look for jobs, apartments, services and used merchandise. I would like you to explore it by doing three tasks:

1) First, you need to find a place to live.  Let's review BOSTON'S NEIGHBORHOODS

A. Find an apartment within 3 miles of CELOP costing under $2000. You will be sharing it with one other person.

B. In preparation for calling the owner on the telephone, think of three questions you would like to ask him or her about the apartment. You can ask for clarification of something mentioned in the Craig's List ad, or ask about something not meditoned in the ad.

    1.

    2.

    3.

C. Practice your phone skills. I will pretend to be the owner.  Begin something like this:

You: Hello, I am calling about the apartment listed on Craig's List.  May I speak to the owner?

Owner: Yes, which apartment are you interested in?

You: [Provide clarification]

Owner: Yes, this is Mrs. Doubleday. I am the owner of that apartment?

You:  Is the apartment still available?

Owner: Why yes, it is.  Would you like to see it?

You: I think so, but first I would like to ask a few questions, if I may......

Owner: Certainly. Go right ahead. What would you like to know?

Then ask your questions

2) Next, you need to find a job.  Find a job you can reach on public transportation.  Try to pick a job you would actually like to have, even if you do not have all the qualifications yet.

3) Finally, to set up your Boston situation you will need some stuff.  Find each of the following:

Item                      Description and Price

  Student Desk
