How many colleges and Universities are there?
In the United States there are approximately 4,168 if you count all 2- and 4-year colleges, including those that are for-profit, but approximately 2,169 if you want to narrow that down to just the 4-year, non-profit institutions.
In Massachusetts there are more than 100 degree-granting institutions of higher education.
In the Boston metropolitan area there are over 58 colleges and universities
The most important ranking of these institutions is done every year by a publication called US News and World Reports.
You job over the next 10 days is to select a college or university you are interested in and you think your classmates will be interested in, and prepare a summary for presenting to the class. Your presentation should include:
- Name and location
- Type of college or university
- Number of students
- Degrees awarded
- Cost per year
- How hard is it to get into
- Percentage of foreign students
- Why you like it
Plus anything else you find interesting or notable. You can include facts, pictures, videos, interviews, or anything else you find related to the university. Sign up for your university of choice on the chart below: First claimed, first reserved. Harvard and Boston University are the only schools off the list.
